Digital Correction and Retouching

Sometimes a photo is taken that, for whatever reason, has a messy background or there are distracting elements. We can digitally retouch the photo to correct these problems.

Image Conversion

How often have you needed an image for a web site or send as an e-mail attachment and found that it was too big to download in a reasonable time. Remember, that people get bored waiting for an image to load and will switch to another site after a few seconds. Most email provides will strip out any images that are larger than a certain size (usually about 2Mb)

We use conversion tools to reduce an image so that it will download in seconds and still be nice and sharp.

This image was a 2336 x3504 pixels file of 23.4 Mb as originally taken. Even on a broadband 2 Mbps Internet connection it would take over 900 seconds to download if it was saved as a JPEG file at full size.

By reducing the file to 600 pixels wide (more than wide enough for most web site browser windows) and saving as a medium quality JPEG it comes down to 52 Kb and loads in 10 sec’s on a 56 Kbps dial up line and almost instantaneous on broadband.

Chop it down to 300 pixels wide and it is now 18.4 KB and loads at under 4 sec’s. It is still good enough for web use and has the added advantage that anyone downloading it will have a low quality image that cannot be printed without loosing quality.
