Insurance inventory
I want to talk about insurance (What’s a photographer doing talking about insurance? you ask). All will be revealed
I assume that you have house and contents insurance but how many of you have prepared a full contents inventory? If you are unlucky enough to have a theft of your property, how will you describe the loss to the police and insurance providers?
But surely, all my stuff is postmarked, won’t that be good enough? It will for things like TV’s and DVD players, if you have recorded the model and serial numbers.
You could end up giving a very poor description of your grannies antique necklace, or that ugly vase you got as a wedding present.
How would you describe this fellow to the police?
Why not have me photograph all of your valuables? I can come to your house and spend some time with you to photograph everything of actual or sentimental value. I will send you thumbnail prints so you can find the photo of the items. You can then spend some time producing an accurate inventory of the items with descriptions and values, etc.
I will produce two copies of the pictures and the inventory onto CD (one for you to keep somewhere safe and the other lodged with your bank).
In the event of a claim you then have all the information you need for the police and insurers to circulate.
